Hiya!

So like I mentioned in Curious Adventure, I just finished a book that a friend gifted me called the Elephant Whisperer by Lawerence Anthony with Graham Spence. The book is about Mr. Anthony, a wildlife conservationist in South Africa, who took in a herd of wild elephants to save their lives despite knowing nothing about how to care for elephants. His journey getting to know and bonding with the elephants is gripping and heartwarming.

It also blew my mind. I knew elephants are swell, but I had no idea they’re so incredible. I mean, we search the stars for alien life, but we already have such intelligent creatures right here to learn how to communicate with. One of which is obviously elephants. They may not look anything like us, but we’re not so different in some ways.

Their genius probably comes from the fact that their brains are enormous. They have the largest brain of any land animal on the planet, weighing 11 pounds. Whereas the average weight of a human brain is 2.6 pounds for females and 2.9 pounds for males.

Not only is their brain larger, but the folds within their brain are unlike other animals. They also have an enlarged hippocampus, which is responsible for spatial recognition and emotions.
