The Search for Aliens: Thinking Outside the Box
After all, aliens may be made of entirely, well, alien, biology
Hiya!
These days, discussions about aliens are increasingly less taboo and more credible. As technology advances, reports of strange phenomena in the skies are growing. Governments even openly admit to investigating some of these sightings and potential alien technology. It’s almost as though discussions about aliens are no longer about if we discover them, but when.
A growing number of scientists are dedicating their careers to exploring how life on other planets might look. Most of them do this by studying life on Earth, such as the bizarre creatures in the far depths of the oceans or the microbes that thrive in places seemingly inhabitable. But some scientists want to explore the unknown — or how life might occur in vastly, well, alien ways.
Aliens Aren’t Taboo Anymore
The mascot for many alien enthusiasts is the humanoid Being with green skin and large black eyes — which is also a point of mockery by skeptics. However, the subject of alien existence is gaining credibility. The U.S. government freely admits it has investigated UFO sightings for decades, and they continue to — though they call them unidentified aerial phenomena (UAPs).
Spurred by videos and first-hand witness reports by various U.S. fighter pilots claiming to see strange phenomena in the skies, the Department of Defense published a report in 2021 containing its investigation into UAPs. Even just last week, a former U.S. Navy F/A-18 fighter pilot named Ryan Graves just penned an article in the Hill about his observations and urged congress to be even more transparent about UAPS.
Additionally, the New York Times released a series of articles divulging that members of the U.S. armed forces have been reporting unexplainable sightings for years, and the U.S. government has been investigating them. After the Times article’s publication, congress held its first congressional hearing into UAP sightings over the last 50 years.
And on June 9, 2022, NASA announced it was commissioning a small study into UAPs. Their goal is to identify current and prospective data sets that scientists could use to increase their understanding of UAPs.
Honestly, I could probably write an entire article about the shift in attitude regarding the possible existence of aliens. Probably one of the biggest reasons is technology, as more people have been able to capture events on video and share them online. The idea that aliens not only exist, but are potentially already visiting us, and have been for years, is suddenly not such a radical idea.
